District Updates Strategic Plan Announcement.
Our Strategic Planning Team consisted of 35 members. Invitations were sent to all stakeholders- community partnerships, families, students (current and past), and staff. Five meetings were held over the course of 6 months. One of these meetings was open to the entire Salem community to help identify our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Through the work of our Strategic Planning Team, we were able to develop and write a new Mission and Vision for Salem School:
On March 21, 2023, Strategic Planning team members attended the School Board Meeting to present the plan. We are very excited to announce that it was approved by the Board that evening!
Bruno Gonzalez, Salem 8th Grade Student, and Karen Krolow, Salem Staff, presented the Strategic Plan to our Salem School Board.
Along with the approval of the plan, we are also excited to announce the launch of our Strategic Plan Dashboard for Salem School. This dashboard allows all stakeholders to view the district's progress toward each of our goals by clicking on the Indicators tab. When viewing the indicators page, you will see indicators grouped within goal areas. Indicators are visually represented by a tile with a description and a metric. To view data for each indicator, click anywhere on the tile.

Strategic Plan Goal Area II Connection: Cultivate a safe, secure, and inclusive learning environment that is responsive to the evolving needs of all stakeholders- Continue to strengthen communication channels with families and the Salem community.
Strategic Plan Goal Area III Connection: Maximize district resources while maintaining fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability: Address the Open Enrollment Gap and Communicate the positive changes that are happening within the school community.
We heard our Salem Families loud and clear during our Stay Interviews and are very excited to announce the use of a new communication and messaging tool called Rooms, integrated directly with the Salem App that we are already using. Many families expressed frustration and confusion with the fact that the majority of communications happening at the classroom level for each of their children were all happening on multiple different platforms (Class DoJo, Remind, etc.).
Beginning this Fall, Rooms will allow us to streamline classroom and family communication, all located in one central App, giving our Salem families consistency when it comes to all things Salem. All classroom teachers will be using Rooms as their method of communication with families.
A few of the features of Rooms:
Two-Way Messaging - If a parent or guardian has questions about upcoming assignments, class curriculum, or anything day-to-day, they can message their child’s teacher directly through the App. This is a safe space for teachers and families to communicate.
Google Classroom Integration
Easily toggle between all of your children who are Salem students with the click of a button right in the App.
Assignments and Announcements synced from Google Classroom for ALL of your children who attend Salem will be available with the quick click of a button.
The translation that works directly with your phone’s settings is available within the app allowing everyone to stay engaged!
Save the Date- 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony. We have scheduled our 8th-grade promotion ceremony for Wednesday, May 31st, at 6:00 pm. Our goal is to have an outside ceremony with six tickets per student. We will continue to communicate with families as we move forward with planning. Please know we will do whatever we can to create a memorable experience to mark the achievements of our 8th-grade students.
